Clubs and Organizations
NJHS
The National Junior Honor Society is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle school students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, citizenship, leadership, and character.
Each year, students with a minimum 90% GPA will receive an invitation to apply to the NJHS in March.
In April, the faculty, after considering student characteristics of service, citizenship, leadership, and character, will notify students of their NJHS membership status. Those students who receive acceptance will be inducted into the HNJ Chapter of the NJHS in May.
Throughout the year, students work with local organizations to provide community service. During the 2021-2022 school year, students raised money to provide goodie baskets to healthcare workers at both Holmes Regional Medical Center and VITAS Healthcare. In addition, they planned and held a Breakfast Fundraiser which earned more than $1,000 for St. Stephen’s Way, a charitable organization working to provide homes for homeless families with school-age children.
This year, students are supporting Genesis House, Inc., an organization that provides emergency housing to homeless mothers and their children and long-term housing to student mothers with children. HNJ students are providing child-care assistance once per month while mothers attend classes. In addition, our members planned and hosted a Halloween party for the children, and will be planning a tea party for mothers in the spring.
Performing Arts
Each year the Performing Arts Club (PAC) performs a musical. Students in grades 1st through 8th are welcome to join. Every student who joins will have a part in the production. An audition session is held for grades 3rd through 8th to match each student with the proper role. Students in grades 1st and 2nd are generally in the chorus and may receive a few lines. HNJ’s PAC provides a wonderful opportunity for our students to share their God-given talents with our parish and school community.
