Performing Arts Club - Mondays- Each year the Performing Arts Club (PAC) performs a musical. Students in grades 1st through 8th are welcome to join. Every student who joins will have a part in the production. An audition session is held for grades 3rd through 8th to match each student with the proper role. Students in grades 1st and 2nd are generally in the chorus and may receive a few lines. HNJ’s PAC provides a wonderful opportunity for our students to share their God-given talents with our parish and school community.
National Junior Honor Society- The National Junior Honor Society is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle school students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, citizenship, leadership, and character.
All 7th and 8th grade students who meet the academic requirement of a 90% average in the 5 major subject areas from the previous school year can apply to NJHS in August. The Induction Ceremony will be held in September. Below is a synopsis of the service projects we've done in the past few years.
Last year, our members volunteered their time at the Marine Resource Council and potted approximately 250 mangrove seed pods. These pods would be later planted in the Indian River Lagoon to provide habitats for hundreds of species and for stabilizing the shoreline. In the past, our students volunteered their time at the Genesis House. They organized a Halloween Party for the children and assembled gift bags for the moms on Mother’s Day. Our members also provided child care one evening per month so that the moms could attend uninterrupted sessions addressing life skills. Other past service projects included assembling gift bags for the Holmes Regional Medical Center nurses and staff, assembling gift baskets for the healthcare workers at 12 VITAS clinics in Brevard County, and hosting a family breakfast to raise money for St. Stephen’s Way, an organization that builds homes for homeless families who are working on re-building their lives. In one of our first service projects, our students gave of their time volunteering at the Melbourne Beach Volunteer Fire Department washing fire trucks, working a booth for Founder’s Day, setting up and serving food at the annual Christmas Tree Lighting and serving food at their annual Pancake Breakfast.
Cheer is available for grades Kindergarten through 5th. The cheer team practices weekly, attends several of the CYS games, and performs at the school’s pep-rallies. Students learn routines, sideline cheers, jumps, tumbling, and age appropriate stunting.
Lacrosse conditioning, new to HNJ in the fall of 2022, teaches students in grades 3rd through 8th basic skills, agility, and strategies of the game.
Track is available to all students after school in grades K through 8th beginning with the second trimester of school.
Guitar has limited seats available and is offered Thursday after school for students in grades 4 through 8.
Choir is offered after school on Tuesdays for students in grades 1 through 8.
Yearbook meets after-school on Thursdays for an hour to help design and organize the yearbook pages.
Audio Visual Team (AV) meets during the school day and is offered to 8th graders. In February, 7th graders begin to join the team and train for the upcoming school year. Our AV team helps with Mass, the Performing Arts Program, and other school events.
